The Sulcis region is a very special place in Sardinia; apart from the beautiful beaches, the perfect sunsets and astonishing coasts the Sulcis region has a unique history related to his mining traditions. At the beginning of 1900 people from many regions of Italy moved to Sulcis to work into the mines and live in cities like Carbonia or Buggerru. Now these mines are closed and can be visited in touristic tour. Our advice is to visit these sites, and also - if you speak a little italian - to talk to local people: everyone in Sulcis has his personal history about his/her father, grandfather or other relative who used to work into the mines. Listen to them and you will learn a lot about this part of Sardinia, about its history and traditions, so far away from the stereotype of "beaches and sun" island.
